These oven fried chicken nuggets have the tastiness and crispiness of fried chicken nuggets, but are “fried” in the oven by baking them! These delicious chicken nuggets are so easy to make!

It is common knowledge that fried chicken is NOT good for you and since eating out is getting more and more expensive, I created an alternative way to get the crispiness of fried chicken without the added fat and you can make it at home!

So to begin with, preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. To make this recipe, you need 2 1/2 lbs of chicken breast. And it made around 50-60 chicken nuggets. You need to chop the chicken breast into bite sized pieces, roughly about an inch big.

This was from one chicken breast. So it made 3x as much. From here you need to make your batter. To make the batter, you need 4 eggs and 1/2 cup skim milk. You also need to add in 1 tsp paprika, 1 tsp salt, and 1 tsp pepper.

Once you have all of the ingredients in the bowl, whisk together until combined.

Once your batter is combined, you need to make the flour mixture to dip the battered chicken in. To do this, you need to combine 1 cup of white flour, 1 cup of whole wheat flour, and 1 Tbsp pepper.

Now you need to spray your baking sheet with canola oil spray. You don’t want the chicken to stick to the bottom of the pan! Once you finish spraying the pan, it is time to start dipping the chicken in each container, starting with the batter. You want to dip the chicken in the egg and flour in small batches.

To prepare the chicken, just grab a handful (around 7-8 pieces) of battered chicken and put it in the flour mixture. Mix it around until each piece of chicken is covered in flour. Before you put the chicken on the pan, shake off any extra flour. You want the chicken to be lightly dusted with flour and not piled on with flour. Put all of the chicken on the baking sheet until the baking sheet is full. I actually filled up 3 baking sheets with this amount of chicken.

*****Now, there is a crucial step here that makes these nuggets so crispy just as if they were fried. The spray that you used to coat the bottom of the pan needs to go on top of the prepared chicken nuggets. So once you have them all laid out of top of the pan, spray them with the canola oil spray. Without this step, the flour doesn’t turn as brown and you’ll see white spots of flour still on the chicken even when they are done.*******

Place the chicken nuggets in the preheated oven and bake for 15-16 minutes, or until golden brown. Take them out the oven and they are done!

Doesn’t that look JUST like chicken that was deep fried?! I’m telling you it tastes just like it too! You can eat them plain or use them in another recipe!
